Crazy Routines

Vaughn has the most annoying habit of falling asleep within 30 seconds of his head touching the pillow! It’s amazing I am still taking my nightly cocktail to help me sleep (used to be able to sleep on a wash line before) and he is already asleep before I finish swallowing my tablets! I then hang around or drum my fingers or read or then go and watch tv until finally I can fall into a restless sleep (oxygen deprivation to the brain does some crazy things!)

The mornings must be a study of social behaviour in our house – I realised today how funny we must all look. I take my heart tablet at 5 am and them fall into a deep sleep finally! Vaughn is the first ‘up’ and he lets the chickens out (we can open their door from our bedroom!), unlike me who can stumble to open their door, and then can fall back to sleep instantly – he is wide awake! Perhaps its the years of motherhood training that allows you to do things in a semi-sleep! He then reads, baths and opens the girls curtains. Em is up and enthusiastically chattering as she opens her eyes – school clothes on, breakfast eaten and all brightly polished in no time at all – ready for a brand new exciting day. I then get up, tell Meg she has 10 minutes to get ready or she is going to school in her pjs and hobble like an old lady to the kitchen to make sandwiches and pack lunches (these actually turn into dog treats the next day cause they don’t seem to get eaten but then again I don’t want the girls to starve). By this time Em is pacing waiting anxiously for everyone to get finished so she can get to school 30 minutes early at least! (We have no banned Em from talking to Megan in the morning – Megan is definitely not a morning chatty person!) Lunches packed, Meg appears carrying whatever items of clothing have not made it onto her body in time, grabs some fruit for breakfast and hot foots it to the car where everyone is now getting ready to leave. I then go and recover from the morning rush on the couch or in bed hahaha!

The irony? Megan is up pretty much straight after Vaughn on the weekends – hoping her teenage sleeping years kick in soon! Em sleeps late on the weekends as long as possible – her teenage years have thankfully kicked in already! However that said when Vaughn is away both the girls miraculously sleep later :o) Must be the knowledge that the weekend brings pyjama days and a lot of not rushing around ;o)
